Background
Kitara Civil Society Organizations Network-KCSON in partnership with Baylor Uganda, supported by President Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is undertaking community systems strengthening interventions for Accelerated HIV/ T.B Epidemic Control and prevention in Kagadi, Kibaale and Kakumiro districts.
The project is based on evidence that, Albertine Graben is advantaged with major natural resources such as lakes, rivers, forests, Rift valleys, wetlands. However, those major NRs were continuously facing pressure from both adjacent communities and external encroachers for commercial activities such as charcoal production for heat energy, rampant felling of trees for firewood, agriculture and timber trading.
A partnership strategy is sought to achieve HIV/TB client retention and Continuity to Treatment. The service delivery approach underscores, the community facility system strengthening framework, with key service providers of; Community development offices, Police, Religious institutions and grass root level focal persons (Linkages and Referral Facilitators, VHTs, expert clients and Para social Workers).
To date, the project has supported identification of 72 community volunteers, trained in basic HIV/TB management, whose key role is to compliment HIV care and treatment, as well as social economic service access. Thus, contributing to attainment of country ambitious strategy of 95% retention
