Background of the FRECAR Project
Kitara Civil Society Organisations’ Network (KCSON), with support from Velux through World Wide Fund for Nature Uganda Country Office (WWF UCO), is one of the implementers of the “Natural Forest Regeneration for Enhanced Carbon Stocks in the Albertine Rift (FRECAR)” project. This is located in the Kagombe-Bugoma landscape, currently across five districts: Kibaale, Kagadi, Kyegegwa, Kikuube, and Kyenjojo. The project aims to restore degraded forest landscapes while improving community livelihoods to address the global triple challenges of biodiversity loss, the climate crisis, and the need to feed a growing population. The project is being implemented through Participatory approaches involving a wide range of stakeholders, including the local Communities (through CBOs), CSOs, NFA, the private sector, District Local Governments, and other Relevant Government Departments and Ministries. KCSON is particularly coordinating the community livelihood component around the project catchment area.
Role Definition:
The purpose of this role (Project Officer) is to support the Project team in the implementation of community livelihood actions related to the Natural Forest Regeneration for Enhanced Carbon Absorption in the Albertine Rift (FRECAR) project.

Required Skills and Competences
1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in community mobilization for restoration & livelihoods
2. Demonstrated experience in community-driven enterprise implementation, especially focusing on landscape restoration.
3. A good understanding of the environment/forestry-related issues and challenges in Uganda, with
a specific focus on Forest Landscape Restoration.
4. Experience in CBO capacity development, communication, mobilisation, advocacy for forestry, livelihood enterprises, and related issues is a must.
5. Effective oral and written communication of forestry and landscape restoration issues to both technical and non-technical audiences;
6. Networking and good interpersonal skills.
7. Good conceptual, analytical, and innovative problem-solving ability;
8. Ability to remain effective while working in a team and under circumstances of minimal
supervision.
9. Must be detail-oriented and can multitask under limited supervision.
10. Fluency in English and at least Runyakitara, a major language group spoken in the project
landscape
11. Possession of a valid motorcycle riding permit and willingness & ability to ride in the field.
