KCSON Conducts Governance and Compliance Workshop for CSOs in Bunyoro

The Kitara Civil Society Organizations Network (KCSON), in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature Uganda Country Office (WWF-UCO), organized a two-days regional workshop on governance and compliance for NGOs and CBOs in the Bunyoro sub-region.

Held on 18th and 19th May 2026 at Golden Castle Hotel in Hoima City under the theme “Talk to your regulator,” the workshop brought together 54 participants from civil society organizations, media, government institutions, and regulatory bodies.

The engagement aimed at strengthening compliance practices, improving understanding of sector laws and policies, and promoting constructive engagement between civil society organizations and regulators.

The workshop featured presentations from representatives of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Civic Advisory Hub (CAH), and local government authorities. Discussions focused on tax compliance, NSSF obligations, anti-money laundering and counter financing of terrorism (AML/CFT), annual statutory returns, and local government compliance requirements.

Speaking during the opening session, the RCC Hoima City, Mr. Mugabi Badru, appreciated KCSON for organizing the workshop and encouraged CSOs to strengthen compliance and accountability in their operations.

Participants were guided on filing tax returns, NSSF contribution requirements, donor and partner due diligence, financial transparency, and the importance of maintaining regular engagement with regulatory institutions.

The workshop also provided a platform for dialogue and clarification on emerging compliance issues affecting civil society organizations.

Closing the engagement, KCSON board member Bigirwenkya Gilbert, urged organizations to strengthen internal compliance systems and carefully screen donors and partners to safeguard their institutions from financial and reputational risks.

The workshop concluded with a shared commitment among participants to strengthen governance, accountability, and compliance practices within their organizations.
