Project Manager – Forest Restoration
Reports to: Executive Director – KCSON
Supervisees: Project Officer and other project staff members
Location: Hoima city (with frequent travel to project areas in Kyankwanzi District)
Background
KCSON is seeking applications for the Project Manager for a prospective project on Forest Restoration
Role Definition:
The purpose of this role is to lead the Project team in the implementation of the Forest Restoration and
livelihood project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform work planning, coordinating, and overseeing the development and completion of restoration activities in line with the approved work plan and restoration guidelines
- Manage the project’s execution, scope, and grant reporting
- Ensure proper coordination with key stakeholders to meet project deliverables
- Oversee the development and implementation of Forest Restoration management plans,
wetland/ catchment management plans
- Empower adjacent local communities and build linkage with other CSOs and the private sector
to develop and manage sustainable, climate-smart livelihood strategies that promote forest conservation and ecological resilienceStrengthen collaborative forest management groups to conserve the forests and reduce dependence by adopting economically viable nature-based enterprises.
- Support the planning and implementation of annual, seasonal, and monthly monitoring activities,
which include baseline data collection and monitoring at the restoration site
- Support livelihood strengthening activities in adjacent communities to reduce pressure on the
forest reserve
- Engaging institutions such as NFA, MoWE, district authorities, and local councils to ensure that
restoration efforts are sustainable
- Develop and implement business cases for the viable nature-based enterprises and link them to
the value chain players, such as the private sector.
- Mainstream pro-people approaches in line with policies on conservation, livelihood, human
rights-based approaches, gender, conflict-sensitive, among others
- Improve organization and program visibility through high-quality documentation, documentaries,
branding mechanisms, participation in relevant events, and acting with integrity at all times.
- Implementation of the project HSE plan
- Perform any other relevant duties as requested by the supervisor or partner entities from time to time
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in either Natural Resources Management, Forestry, or a related discipline.
- A Master’s in a relevant field, and/ or Post Graduate training in Project Planning & Management is preferred.
Required Experience
- 5years+ of professional experience in forestry management, Natural Resources Management,
or conservation management.
- Track record in delivering conservation and restoration outcomes.
- Experience in the application of GIS and Remote sensing in restoration
- Knowledge and experience of Scientific approaches to determine areas restored and the
habitat quality.
- Experience in supporting community groups for forest management and livelihoods
- Demonstrable experience engaging with government, private sector, and civil society at all
levels
- Familiarity with the National Forest Authority, National Environment Management Authority,
Ministry of Water and Environment, and relevant conservation/ restoration policies and legal
framework
Required Skills
- Strong project management skills with experience in project planning, financial management,
reporting, and evaluation of Projects
- Strong financial management skills
- Strong report writing and documentation skills.
- Strong communication and advocacy skills (written and verbal), with the ability to present,
persuade, influence, and negotiate at all levels.
- Ability to convey the work of KCSON with confidence and credibility.
- Good team player with the ability to also work well under own initiative.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
- Possession of a valid motorcycle riding permit and willingness and ability to ride in the field.
Working Relationships
- Interacts and works closely on a regular basis with the project team and the staff of the key
partners, including NFA, MoWE, District Local Government, among others.
- Interacts as required with the donor
