KCSON Joint Monitoring with DNRO Kikuube District and NFA

During a joint monitoring exercise with the District Natural Resources Officer (DNRO) Kikuube and the National Forestry Authority (NFA), KCSON reviewed interventions aimed at conserving Bugoma forest. The DNRO commended KCSON for supplementing government efforts by supporting communities adjacent to the forest with alternative livelihoods to reduce dependence on natural resources.

The team visited St. Joseph Technical Institute, where KCSON is sponsoring eight out-of-school youths from nearby communities to acquire hands-on skills. Other sites included a 75-hectare plantation of exotic and indigenous trees established by Mpanga Conservation Development Association, Kwonga clan forest, and Itohya forest in Kizirafumbi Sub-county. They also inspected KCSON-supported projects such as passion fruit farming—where one beneficiary, Grace, earned UGX 15 million from her first harvest—mushroom growing, and apiary initiatives.
