On 6th November 2025, KCSON, with support from WWF Uganda under the FRECAR Project, organized an interschool debate and cultural exchange at Igongwe Primary School, Kyegegwa District. The event brought together learners from Igongwe Primary School and Arise and Shine Nursery & Primary School to exchange ideas on conserving the Kitechura and Ibambaro Forest Reserves.
The debate centered on the motion “Are fines the best option to stop encroachment on forest reserves?”, sparking lively discussions and thoughtful insights from the young debaters. Students examined both community-driven and policy-based strategies for conservation, emphasizing awareness creation, reforestation, and sustainable livelihoods.

The day also featured poem recitations, music, dance, and drama performances, where learners creatively shared messages on environmental conservation and climate action. The activities showcased their understanding of the importance of protecting natural resources for future generations.
To promote unity and sportsmanship, students from both schools participated in friendly football and netball matches. As part of the day’s highlights, learners received T-shirts, mathematical sets, and sports equipment (football and netball) for their schools – motivating continued engagement in environmental conservation initiatives.
Through such interactive platforms, KCSON continues to empower young people to become advocates for sustainable development and environmental protection within their communities.
